The Snow

The Snow

It rests in silence, cold and white
on tables poised outside,
a table cloth of snow in white
no wants wait there beside;

beside the bustle here inside,
where staff come chat-discrete,
the snow awaits it's end outside
without a thought-conceit;

now thought-conceit, it hides about
with bodies, every kind,
in you, in me and everyone,
it hides from us -Divine;

it masquerades as "helpfulness",
but want's for it's sweet sake,
it wants always to prove its point,
to make "them" wrong -mistake;

it hides the thought of "me" within,
the "facts" that it selects,
to prove to you my version's right,
make wrong, what it rejects;

discussion wants that "i am right"
so erudite am i,
I'll use your point to add to mine,
another reason why;

My friends all tell me "I am right,"
discussion proves to thee,
and those who don't agree become
my enemies, to me;

the snow just watches silently
these patterned thoughts that play
and thought-conceit's a pattern
that plays in us today,

the snow just watches silently,
as shadows move and change;
and staff and patients come and go
like clouds that re-arrange;

existing but a little while,
reflecting holy light,
the snow awaits the melt to come
and Grace sustains it's flight;

compacting into ice beneath,
as people often do,
as they grow old and shrink a bit
say "No" a time or two;

strengthening "self" with words of "no"
they make a choice you see,
instead of living happy lives
they create pain to be;

to be a "self" in mind defined,
by what it does reject,
by what it loves as well -refined,
so it's balance it protects;

Let us say "Yes" instead of "No"
as we grow old and change
as youth advances on to smiles
let life take us again;

For as the snow will melt away
so will our forms of clay,
and so the thought of "me" or "you"
this too will pass away.

And once we melt away to Love
we'll smile forever Be
so why wait for the bodies end,
forever's here to me.
